  • When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
I generally write down the idea and/or the beginning bit for future use.  If something good comes up - like a bit of dialogue - I'll write that down too.  Sometimes I will get an idea, start writing and keep writing as long as possible.

18. Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

Usually from the movies, other fics or requests from friends. I always have a constant stream of "Wouldn't it be cool if...?" and "Ooooh, idea!" going through my head so it's not really hard to find the bunnies. They seek me out and hump right on my doorstep as it were. :)

  • Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
See the last post.  They are the bane of my existence.  Hate, hate, HATE titles.  For the most part.  Sometimes they do come easy...but not often, and certainly not the easiest part of the fic.  Usually the easiest part of the fic is the beginning.  Hardest part is the end or the title, depending.  Actually, I lie.  Hardest part is usually getting the beginning and the end to join up since I have a hard time writing linearly and usually have the end written before I have the middle finished.  As for chapter titles, I do tend to give them each a name, yes.  Sometimes they relate to the chapter, sometimes they're random.  Just like me. :)

  • Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

I don't mind summaries but I can't say that I like them or hate them.  They're not too terribly hard to write though I try to keep them very short.  Some places where I post or have posted, like FF.net, have a character limit on them.  I just try to come up with something that will let the reader know what they're getting in for.  That's generally not too bad.

Titles, however, are the bane of my existence.

  • Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
I try to warn for anything that I think that others could be uncomfortable with.  The most important thing, I think, is to rate the fic NC- 17 if it is graphic and then to warn for the big things - rape, incest, noncon, character death, etc.  I've also started to warn for infidelity because I know some people have a problem with it.  I haven't really had to warn for anything "strange" yet though.

  •                  Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
This question makes me laugh.  I write almost exclusively NC-17 fics...I don't think there is anything higher.  Even things that squick most people I tend to be okay with - though I don't necessarily write them.  Not really into watersports or scat, of course, and very hardcore torture porn can be a bit over the top, but I've still read some of those...and to be honest, if we're counting RP, I've written some too.   So with that said, I am certainly comfortable with writing NC-17 and I have never found ANYTHING that I've written to be G-rated.  PG maybe.   Some character will say "fuck" in there somewhere and there's usually at least the hint of sex or violence if not full on graphic scenes.

Gah. And now everyone can see why I never finish a story. I can't even do a 30 day fanfic meme in 30 days!
  • Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

Definitely fanon, however  I sometimes try to stay pretty canon compliant and work in the grey area around the world as it was written, portrayed or what have you.  An example of such is my ongoing Lucius/Harry fic.  There's nothing in canon that SAYS that those two couldn't have had a torrid affair after the books ended.  *grin*  Even so, there are some general things that show up in fanon that I like to play with sometimes.  An example:  a lot of authors that write Snape fics (at least that I've read) seem to have him not speaking much or at all while in the throes of passion...so when I wrote Silence_is_Golden, I played around with that notion.  I've always been partial to portraying him with a rather dirty mouth in the heat of the moment (c'mon, you so know that a person like him would be cursing, growling and shouting while getting it on), so it was a fun thing to do.

As to the second part of that question, yes, I think it has.  Especially with HP, though my opinion of characters definitely evolved even as I was reading the books - quite seperately from writing fic about them.  I've just started to really reread the books for the first time in a couple of years and I think I'm reading more deeply this time around because of the fanfics that I have both written and read.

  • Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?

No, I haven't.  I've thought about it but just never have had the time.  There are so many stories to be written within the world or within an original AU that I've never gotten around to doing an adaptation.  They look like a whole lot of fun though.  Maybe someday....

  • Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
I do, after a fashion.  I'd say romance or angst are my genres of choice, perhaps with some hurt/comfort thrown in.  I do a lot of PWPs too.  I like writing smut so plot's not always conducive. :)

  • Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I must say that I generally don't write pairings I don't like.  I have so many different ideas in my head that I'm kept pretty busy with the pairings I DO like.  I have had trouble writing pairings in the past but I find that it has more to do with the plot I'm trying to write for them than the characters themselves.  The hardest pairing to write thus far has been Snape/Dumbledore from A Very Potter Musical.  Much as I wanted to write that fic, I have a bit of a mental block caused by the actual canon characters.  We've been told Dumbledore is gay and all, but I've never seen him as much of a sexualized character.  The fella's over a hundred years old for Merlin's sake. ;)  Still, one of these days I may manage it.  Part of the problem too, is that such a fic is just meant to be some PG/PG-13 fun and I seem to have a hard time writing anything that isn't NC-17.
